The Leading Cause Of Death On School Campuses

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat—and it’s fatal in 95% of the cases. SCA is the leading cause of death on school campuses. The American Heart Association reports that every 3 days in the U.S., a young athlete dies from sudden cardiac arrest. The threat is real.

WHP’s Cardiovascular Testing Program Helps Protect Your Child:

  • Helps prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest by detecting unsuspected heart abnormalities
  • Identifies blood clots and other vascular conditions to which athletes are prone
  • Promotes early detection of cardiovascular conditions that pose an immediate risk to a student’s life as well as those that may affect the student’s well-being down the road

No Warning Signs Or Symptoms

For 80% of kids, Sudden Cardiac Arrest will be the FIRST sign something is wrong.

Students who are physically fit and active may be completely unaware they have something wrong with their hearts. The majority simply do not experience anything indicating a heart problem. Others believe shortness of breath or dizziness is caused by exertion—not a heart condition—and will work harder to get stronger, putting their lives at risk. Physical exams will not pick up most underlying heart issues!

Information About Testing

What Type of Diagnostic Testing will Students Receive?

Students will receive an electrocardiogram (EKG), a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of the heart and an echocardiogram, which visualizes the structure and function of the heart. Additionally, they will receive non-invasive vascular ultrasound to assess for the presence of vascular abnormalities for which athletes have demonstrated a unique predisposition.

What is the Cost of the Testing?

WHP will bill your insurance provider for the testing, accepting what your carrier deems usual and customary. As required by law, WHP will bill for any deductible or co-insurance owed, if applicable. WHP can eliminate any balance due for those in genuine hardship situations. Click Here for a Waiver of Financial Responsibility

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), funds may automatically be deducted if a balance is due, even if a waiver has been submitted.

Wimbledon Health Partners’ Priority is the Health and Safety of your Child, not causing you Financial Harm

Don’t spend time worrying about out-of-pocket cost. Call WHP Customer Relations at 855-200-8262 to verify your health benefits and to find out how you might qualify to receive testing at little to no cost, or to find out how your HSA/FSA/HRA will be affected.

What do We Need to Know for Testing?

Tests will be performed on the student’s neck, legs, abdomen, and chest. We ask that all students wear baggy shorts and that females wear a sports bra for testing. Medical gowns will also be available. Click here to review guidelines to prepare for testing.

What Can I Expect Post-Testing?

Wimbledon Health Partners will immediately alert a student’s parent/guardian of any significant findings. One of our board certified cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, or radiologists will review any such findings, and a recommendation will be made if there is a need for additional testing or a referral to a specialist.

Approximately 4-6 weeks following testing, the student’s parent will receive an email with the complete test results.

The policyholder will likely receive multiple Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) from the insurance carrier for services performed as the claims move through the billing cycle. These statements may indicate you owe a specific amount, but these are NOT BILLS; they are routine notifications from the insurance company and do not accurately reflect the amount you owe nor the costs of the tests. EOBs may be received for multiple companies for the same services, but please understand that the administration of tests and reading of test results are considered two services.

In some cases, the insurance company may send a check for services rendered directly to the policyholder. In these instances, we ask you to please forward the check to WHP’s corporate office: 7000 W Palmetto Park Rd, Suite 205, Boca Raton, FL 33433.
