“It really hit me hard that I could have lost my son had it not been for this testing.”
“Without this testing, we wouldn’t have known about Jordan’s condition until it was too late.”
Mrs. Powell Dorsey, Mother of Jordan Powell
“It’s really scary to think about what would have happened if I would have continued playing.”
Kooper Horton, High School Student
“Many parents think that if their child has no symptoms and is healthy, like Richard was, there is nothing to worry about.”
“Do not take for granted that your son or daughter is healthy. If your school offers cardiac testing, do it. Make sure your child goes.”
Alberta Price, Mother of Malik Allen
“The need for tests that can pick up these heart conditions is clear. Sudden cardiac arrest in students isn’t as rare as many people think.”
“There really isn’t any history of any medical problems in our family. My diagnosis was a complete shock.”
Jordan Moore, High School Student
“This simple test showed us exactly what was wrong with Justin. I want other mothers to have the opportunity to have their kids checked out.”
“As his mother, all I could think was that my son had survived a condition kids are dying from all over the world.”

The Leading Cause Of Death On School Campuses

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat—and it’s fatal in 95% of the cases. SCA is the leading cause of death on school campuses. The American Heart Association reports that every 3 days in the U.S., a young athlete dies from sudden cardiac arrest. The threat is real.

WHP’s Cardiovascular Testing Program Helps Protect Your Child:

  • Helps prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest by detecting unsuspected heart abnormalities
  • Identifies blood clots and other vascular conditions to which athletes are prone
  • Promotes early detection of cardiovascular conditions that pose an immediate risk to a student’s life and those that could have an effect down the road

No Warning Signs Or Symptoms

For 80% of kids, Sudden Cardiac Arrest will be the FIRST sign something is wrong.

Students who are physically fit and active may be completely unaware they have something wrong with their hearts. The majority simply do not experience anything indicating a heart problem. Others believe shortness of breath or dizziness is caused by exertion—not a heart condition—and will work harder to get stronger, putting their lives at risk. Published studies estimate that pre-participation screening (history and physical exam) only catches 3-15% of cardiac problems!

Information About Testing

What Type of Diagnostic Testing will Students Receive?

Tests include EKGs and echocardiograms to detect heart abnormalities that can cause sudden cardiac arrest and non-invasive vascular ultrasound to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots). Qualified sonographers (techs) perform the tests professionally and maintain the privacy of each student. Board certified reading cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, and radiologists interpret test results and report detailed findings.

What is the Cost of the Testing?

There are no upfront costs for the testing. Wimbledon Health Partners will bill your health insurance for the services provided, accepting what your carrier deems usual and customary (we do not balance bill!). As required by law, WHP will bill for the deductible or co-insurance, if applicable. If a balance is due, WHP can offer a payment plan or can eliminate the balance entirely for those in genuine hardship situations. There are a number of circumstances that qualify you for a waiver, including saving for college. Click Here for a Waiver of Financial Responsibility

Please be aware that if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), funds may be deducted automatically if a balance is due, even if a waiver has been submitted. Please check with your insurance carrier, as each policy is different.

We encourage you to call WHP Customer Relations at (855) 200-8262 to verify your health benefits prior to testing. If you do not have health insurance, please call us to discuss options. Our priority is the health and safety of your child!

What do We Need to Know for Testing?

Tests will be performed on the student’s neck, legs, abdomen, and chest. We ask that all students wear baggy shorts and that females wear a sports bra for testing. Medical gowns will also be available. Click here to review guidelines to prepare for testing.

What Can I Expect Post-Testing?

Reports:  Wimbledon Health Partners will immediately alert a student’s parent/guardian of any significant findings!

WHP will email detailed test results to the parent/guardian on file about 4-6 weeks following testing.

Insurance:  The policyholder will likely receive multiple Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) from the insurance carrier as the claims move through the billing cycle. These are not bills – they do not accurately reflect what your insurance carrier has paid nor what you owe. The administration of the tests (by WHP techs) and the reading of test results (by WHP physicians) are two different services and will be reflected in separate EOBs for multiple companies.

Registration for Cardiovascular Testing is a 2-Step Process

Schedule Appointment

To reserve a spot for your child, you will access your school’s online scheduling portal to select the testing date and time most convenient for you. A valid cell phone number should be provided when scheduling, so we can send appointment reminders via text message. Appointments run every 1.5 hours.

Complete Paperwork

You will need to complete, sign, and submit online paperwork that collects medical and health insurance information and gives consent for testing. Printable paperwork is also available to complete offline.
